Thomas Teass' name as spelled by his German wife, Katherine Ley (originally from Landaw, in the area of Neiderbayern, Germany).  Taken from Thomas Teass' family bible, circa 1821.  The English double "s" is represented by the German character "ß", interpreted by Court Clerk as a "ys", thus leading the spelling differences.
